The sae adapter for an idi does not bolt on a t444e(7.3 psd in ford speak). For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding.
Not saying the idi package is bad, just not an easy power adder. Ive seen pics of the 444e trucks with the ecm mounted on the rocker cover. As long as you get everything it wont be that hard. Its a much mechanically simple swap for sure, but for the power level increase why not add a turbo. If memory serves me right International combines the PCM and IDM into one computer box. One of our bucket trucks has the T444E hooked to a Spicer 5 speed with a 2 speed axle.... And it is a complete DOG compared to a 466 with an Eaton 6 speed, or International 6. Turbos and wastegating is set up a bit different, depending on the model. Case in point. The 6 speed transmission that goes with the 8.3 is 850. Youd have everything, including the clutch, all set up and ready to go. Shhh. dont tell anyone People dont want to hear that stuff on these forums. Putting things in context, a T444EPowerstroke is a big step up from an IDI. The brutal truth is if I added up the total amount of time it took to do the entire swap --and then took a part time job at McDonalds working that same amount of time, I would have likely earned enough money from flippin burgers to have purchased a different truck already equipped with the enginetrans combo that suited me. In retrospect on my own project, the route I took was probably done more for ego than anything else. Yes it is kinda cool when kudos are received as I show bystanders all the stuff we did in the conversion but in reality, an IDI will still get you to the same location albeit a tad slower. Being an IH app and having a sae bell and engine mounting I would skip the t444e and go directly to a dt466, might as well do it right, and it is a much easier swap if you stay mechanical. The difference in power is huge, an IH app t444e is not a big improvement over the idi(highest output is 190485,) while a 466 is a proper truck engine(195520 to 275800 OEM ratings) and 93-97 could be had with a p-pump for ease of tuning. For those of you touting the Cummins bandwagon, it is bigger than a 466, but the power in most apps is similar, especially mech. Yes the isc can be had with 1100 ftlb, but you wont find a mechanical one past 800 easily. International 4700 444E Navistar Engine Series IH InlineNo one will argue that the 400 series IH inline sixes cant make power, they have been around since the 70s in tractors and farmers have been pulling with them all along. From what I have seen, the 466 is going to be much easier to find too. Family hauler in the making 92 W250 LE, CTD5 speed 4x4, tow pigDDsnow pushin pig 86 F250.
